About the Role

As a Senior Inspector, Compliance Officer, you’ll play a key role in supporting legal and compliance processes related to animal welfare investigations across Queensland. From preparing prosecution applications to guiding inspectors through evidence handling, your work ensures cases are handled professionally, ethically, and in accordance with the law. You’ll also be a central contact for stakeholders, help develop training resources, and support intelligence gathering that leads to real-world impact for animals in need.

Your Goal

  • Provide expert support on animal welfare investigations and ensure compliance with relevant legislation
  • Coordinate the timely preparation and submission of legal documents and prosecution applications
  • Act as a key point of contact between inspectors, legal professionals, and government departments
  • Assist in developing training materials and providing regulatory guidance to field teams
  • Support intelligence efforts to enhance operational planning and case development
  • Ensure all activities comply with RSPCA Qld policy and workplace health and safety standards

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and submit legal applications under the Animal Care and Protection Act 2001
  • Assist inspectors with full briefs of evidence, forfeiture applications, warning letters, and legal notices
  • Draft key documents such as affidavits, cost schedules, and court-related correspondence
  • Provide technical feedback and recommendations to the Chief Inspector
  • Liaise with legal representatives, defendants, witnesses, and relevant authorities
  • Be the link between inspectors, legal teams, expert witnesses, and government departments
  • Ensure all stakeholders are kept informed of case progress, legal obligations, and evidentiary standards
  • Develop and deliver training materials to enhance inspector knowledge of legal and regulatory procedures
  • Support on-the-job learning related to evidence preparation, documentation, and compliance
  • Maintain detailed case notes, internal reports, and prosecution registers
  • Compile reports and memorandums for internal and external stakeholders
  • Draft legal letters, update registers, and handle related admin duties for prosecutions and forfeitures
  • Draft intelligence reports to support case strategy and decision-making
  • Conduct research on individuals, locations, or entities linked to cases
  • Collaborate with external agencies to gather and share intelligence
  • Assist with preparing MOUs, service agreements, and related operational documents

About You

You’re a confident communicator and natural problem-solver, with sharp investigative instincts and a solid understanding of legal processes. Your strengths likely include:

  • Strong investigative experience and knowledge of criminal court procedures
  • Familiarity with the Animal Care and Protection Act 2022, Evidence Act 1977, and related legislation is desriable
  • Experience preparing legal briefs, witness coordination, and managing compliance matters
  • High attention to detail in case files, reports, and documentation
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive information with integrity
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, case management systems, and the ability to learn legal software quickly
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • A collaborative, respectful and approachable attitude when working with colleagues and external stakeholders
